Lonesome Cry Of The Wolf

Lonesome Cry Of The Wolf

If all the beasts were gone
Men would die from loneliness of spirit,
Since whatever happens to the beast
Also happens to man.
All things are connected.
Whatever befalls the earth
befalls the sons of the earth.

Chief Seattle

So many times I have sat and listened to the howl of the wolf.  A haunting sound but it's also a mournful sound.  It's as if they knew that their time here on this earth was in danger.  I read the above poem many years ago.  To me, it is a very powerful poem.  If we don't respect and protect the beast that God placed on this earth, in the process, we destroy ourselves.

All things are connected to the circle of life on earth, and the wolf is one of the important parts of that circle.

Many species once roamed this earth and have now vanished.  And many more are now facing extinction themselves.
Who will be next - Man?

The wolf is one of these that face this plight.

The wolf has been long misunderstood.  I remember the fairy tales I was told when I was growing up.  Little Red Riding Hood,  The Three Little Pigs.  The wolf was made out to be a cold blooded killer.

But who is the real predator?

Man hunts and kills for the sport of it.  So they can have that big trophy to place on their wall for all to see.
Man, also destroys that which he can't control and has no respect for.

The wolf, on the other hand, hunts for food, for its family.  They are loyal to their mates and to their family.  They don't search for confrontations with man, in fact, they are afraid of man, and will try to avoid a confrontation.

So who's the predator?
The wolf,  or Man?

Because it was our God who put us both here
I wish I wasn't so misunderstood
After all, it is man who says that I am not good
If man could take some time to learn what I am about
I might still be here if he doesn't wipe my family out
It is up to you to help me
To make the others see
I am not a killer as they have you believe
I want to be understood and free
(B.Schmitz )
